On our latest trip to Walt Disney World we opted to stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Yes, we have stayed there before and certainly enjoyed it, but the time we decided to give the Pirate Rooms a try!
As soon as we pull into the Caribbean Beach Resort I immediately feel immersed in the island feel. To check in you have to visit the Customs House which is a separate area from the food court and gift shop. When we arrived at the Customs House we were immediately greeted and doors were opened for us. It was such a friendly feel (which I was totally glad about that because when we stayed at Coronado Springs the time before it was a nightmare with rudeness) from the Cast Members from the moment we arrived. The lovely gentleman that helped us get all checked in even went out of his way to find my daughter a crown and a wand that he knew they had somewhere. Talk about the royal treatment! Then we headed outside to grab our daughters stroller we had rented from Kingdom Strollers. They were super friendly and already knew which stroller to bring out before I even had to tell them. I was so impressed by how smoothly the check in process went this time.
We payed the extra to stay in a pirate room this visit to the Caribbean Beach Resort. The rooms were so cute and appropriately themed. Ship shaped beds, plank looking carpeting, barrels for the fridge and side table, a compass shaped side table. The attention to detail in the pirate rooms is incredible. Our room was also very clean. I am a clean freak when it comes to staying hotels and I always check for bedbugs, wipe down the bathroom and tv remote with disinfecting wipes… you get the idea. I was very comfortable all week with how tidy things were kept.
Now paying the extra for the room I was under the impression it would be very close to the main pool and food court area. But I was wrong. Really. Really. Wrong. The pirate themed rooms are located in the furthest possible building from the main hub. However, there are several bus stops on the Caribbean Beach Resort property so it wasn’t too long of a walk to get to those. I just think that it is funny that you pay more to stay the furthest away. But so be it. I just want to make you aware that it is a really long walk to these back buildings. Caribbean beach resort is a huge place!
The main pool area is a lot of fun! The pool is very big and includes 2 water slides. There is no height requirement for the water slides and there are lifeguards on duty but be cautious they go fast! My 5 year old can swim really well but I still stood at the base of the slide to catch her. There is also a splash play area and it is a lot of fun for little kiddies. There are a couple of slides and a big barrel that spills every 90 seconds or so soaking everything in sight. I encourage you to stand under it, its a lot of fun! Also in the area are 2 hot tubs. One is tucked away around the backside of the pool. It always has less people in it, go find it. You will be able to have a few minutes of piece and quiet.
The food court and gift shop area is nice too. There seems to be plenty of seating and enough drink stations to accommodate a busy morning crowd without too much fuss. Pretty standard food here – sandwiches, pizza, pasta, salads, burgers but it is all very good! We opted to have a counter service dinner here while we were swimming and everyone enjoyed their food. For dessert you can even opt to have soft serve ice cream! The gift shop also has a nice selection of gifts to choose from. I enjoyed browsing through it on several different occasions during our trip.
Ask my hubby what his favorite part of the resort is and he will tell you the hammocks. He actually fell asleep in one while I was getting ready for dinner! Guess he needed a little quiet time, ha. The resort also has extra features such as pool parties, a movie under the stars, and a campfire with marshmallows!
We really enjoyed every aspect of our stay here at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Next time, however, we will skip the extra fee and just stay in one of the regular themed rooms. They are cute too and a little closer.
Here is a funny picture of my little girl being a mean pirate on the bed!
