Rapid Fill Mugs at Walt Disney World

*Please note that this post, at this time, is still a rumor.  BUT, it is a big rumor. A big enough rumor that I feel very comfortable sharing this information with you.

The big buzz floating around the Disney community right now centers around the very popular Disney Resort Mugs at Walt Disney World.  The works in place are about changing the current refill mug system, which is basically the honor system, to a new Rapid Fill System which is centered around RFID technology.   The RFID chip can be programmed for any number of days even past 14 days but it all has to be consecutive days.  The cups will be able to be refilled at any Rapid Fill Stations at any of the Walt Disney World Resorts.

The new Rapid Fill system will give guests the flexibility to choose how many days of their vacation they want their cup to work, but the days must be consecutive.  If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, no worries, the rumor is that it will be included with your plan.

So, how does the Rapid Fill Work?

Well for starters you will have to purchase a new mug every trip to Walt Disney World.  I know a lot of people, including myself, already do this.  However, I do see a lot of old resort mugs floating around as well, no judgement here, but that will all end with the Rapid Fill System.  You will them program your mug to however many days you would like to use it on your Walt Disney World vacation.  They must be consecutive days.  Each day ends at 11:59pm.  It is not 24 hours from the time of purchase.  So if you buy your mug at 5pm and want to use it that day, your day 1 is from 5pm until 11:59pm that day.

Mug pricing will most likely be:

  • $8.99 1 day
  • $11.99 2 days
  • $14.99 3 days
  • $17.99 for length of stay
When you go to the fountain machine you will be required the scan your mug before the machine will dispense your beverage of choice.  The new machines will also be able to tell you how many days left you have on your cup.
If you don’t want to purchase a refillable mug, you will still be able to buy a paper cup to fill up at the new machines.  Each paper cup is rumored to be good for 4 refills.

It seems like Disney will be rolling out this new system rather quickly.  There have been reports of new fountain beverages put in a few of the Walt Disney Resorts that are very similar to the demo ones by ValidFill.

What do you think about the new RFID Rapid Fill system?  Does it seem necessary to you, are you excited to try it out?  Let me know in the comment section below!
